L: If we claim we have not sinned,
P: we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
L: My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin,
P: we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
L: He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins,
P: and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

“Tamar and Judah: Messiness and Grace”
Response of Faith: Belgic Confession 18
Therefore we confess… that Christ shared the very flesh and blood of children; being the fruit of the loins of David according to the flesh, descended from David according to the flesh; the fruit of the womb of the virgin Mary; born of a woman; the seed of David; the root of Jesse; descended from Judah, having descended from the Jews according the flesh; descended from Abraham―having assumed descent from Abraham and Sarah, and was made like his brothers and sisters, yet without sin.
In this way Christ is truly our Immanuel―that is: “God with us.”
