This Week at Calvin

The school year has started and Calvin Church wishes all the students, teachers, administrations and parents a great, healthy year, full of much learning and respect for each other. We pray that the 5 month leave has made us appreciate each other and what everyone adds to the equation. The Bible has a reminder throughout the scriptures to 'love your neighbor as yourself" Leviticus 9:18 or like the Golden Rule: " Do unto others as you would have them do to you." Some have used the saying "Be Kind" that should cover many situations. Blessings on all in the education field.
Calvin Church said "Farewell" to Pastor DeLapp and family this last Sunday. In the Christian Reformed Church, we then establish a search committee of our members to find the right person that would fit our situation and then we "call" them. They may decide to come or not. In the meantime, we have pulpit supply from CRC pastors in the surrounding area to come and preach The Word each week.
This week Rev. Dave Smit, a retired CRC pastor from Sioux Center will preach at 10:00 AM. His sermon is based on the text of 1 Kings 17: 1-6. Message title is "Depending on God." As Calvin continues on without a Pastor we lean on The Word where Elijah was sustained in a miraculous way that the word of God was not dependent on the people but the people were dependent on the word of God. We will respond with the hymn "I Need Thee Every Hour."
Miriam Hector will provide a prelude prior to the 10:00 worship. She will play an arrangement of "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" by Marilynn Ham, and a "Love Medley: The Greatest Thing, My Jesus I Love Thee, and Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus".
Songs of worship will be "Creator, Spirit, by Whose Aid" and "Ten Thousand Reasons". We will sing "Keep What You Have Believed" prior to the reading of scripture. Following the Benediction we will sing "We Receive Your Blessing."
Following the service this Sunday there will be a congregational meeting for selection of Office Bearers. The nominees are as follows: Elder; Jerry Reed, Ron DeKok and Bob Hughes. Two to be selected for a 3 year term. Deacon: Dave Davelaar, Lynda Bulthuis and Jeremy Kamp. Two to be selected. The Council thanks all who considered their nomination and also these who have agreed to serve in this important role in the life and health of our church! Absentee ballots are available by the mailboxes. These ballots must be signed and returned to a Council member or placed in a sealed envelope and returned to the office by Sunday, August 30.
Offerings and tithes can be put in the basket in the rear of the church, given to the secretary from Monday to Friday 10 to noon or mailed to 326 7th St SE, Le Mars.
If you have any needs, we would love to help you any way. Contact the church at 546-4767 and we will find a volunteer to run your errand.
Our church's website has our past sermons at calvincrclemars.org, on CDs under the mailboxes at church or live online streaming. If you would like to have your email included for this information, please contact Janet, our secretary.
Calvin welcomes all to join us in worship and experiencing the joy of God's life changing love.
