This Week at Calvin
Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 326 7th St SE, Le Mars, IA welcomes all who are looking for a church home to visit us at our worship services at 10:15 AM or online at calvincrclemars.org. CCRC is "A Caring Church, Reaching Community."
Our May 31st service will center on the theme of Pentecost the Christian holiday which is celebrated the 49th day (the seventh Sunday) after Easter Sunday. Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks, as described in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2: 1 - 21)
Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp has chosen this passage of the Holy Spirit coming at Pentecost in Acts for his sermon. The Gospel reading comes from John 20: 19 - 23 when Jesus appears to the Apostles after the resurrection showing his scarred hands and feet. Jesus also commissions them and to 'be not afraid." He breathes on them the Holy Spirit to carry out this task.
To prepare for worship, Miriam Hector will play a couple of selections on the grand piano. The first is a well-known hymn "His Eye is On The Sparrow." The second is a newer contemporary song entitled "Breathe" played with an accompanying CD.
The congregation will come together in a time of silence and responding with singing "Hear Our Prayer, O Lord." The Call to Worship is the Heidelberg Catechism Question and Answer # 53 on What do we believe concerning 'the Holy Spirit?" A: " First, that the Spirit, with the Father and the Son, is eternal God. Second, that the Spirit is given also to me, so that, through true faith, he makes me share in Christ and all his benefits, comforts me, and will remain with me forever." The Songs of Worship will be "Spirit of God, Unleashed on Earth", "Wind, Wind Blow on Me", "Spirit of the Living God", "Creator Spirit, by Whose Aid", and "The Doxology". The postlude will be the chorus of "Greater is He That is in Me".
Calvin's church office is open Monday through Friday from 10 - noon. There you may drop off your tithes and offerings or if it is more convenient to mail them to the church. There are CDs of past services on the ledge below the mailboxes, feel free to take any that you would like. Calvin's members are looking for ways to help each other and our neighbors during this strange time. If you have a need, please contact our church office (546-4767) or use the email address: calvinlemars@gmail.com., and we will find a volunteer to run your errand.
A library has been set up in the basement. You are welcome to check out any of the titles you find there. If anyone has books, CD's, and/or DVD's to donate to the library it would be appreciated.
We pray that you will feel the presence of the Holy Spirit each and every day. Blessings, Calvin Church.
