This Week at Calvin
This Sunday is the Fourth Sunday of Easter. We celebrate the resurrection of our crucified Lord, who conquered death so we can have the assurance that we may someday rise again and live with Him in heaven.
The Gospel reading this week is from John 14: 1 - 14 where Jesus comforts his disciples that "he has a house with many rooms. He going there to prepare a place for us." "He is the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him." These "Ancient Words" have been true for centuries.
Calvin is opening it's doors for those who would like to worship in a church setting at 326 7th St SE. There are some recommendations. If any of you have concerns about meeting as a group, please don't feel obligated to attend at this time. If you have underlying health conditions, or are just not comfortable, the service will still be available on-line (youtube) or on CD and on the church's website as usual. We will miss you, but we want you to stay physically healthy as well!
Here are our guidelines, Please read them and do your best to adhere to these practices.
- Come to church and proceed directly to the sanctuary.
- One row should have persons seated at the ends (aisle) the row in front should have persons seated in the middle of the row only. The next row would have persons seated at the ends (aisle). This will allow us to stagger seating and maintain the requested distancing.
- Seating is available in the choir loft as well.
- Please sit with members of your immediate household only.
- If you have a mask, feel free to wear it to church, and/or during the service, your choice.
- At the conclusion of the service, please delay your exit, and allow the people seated toward the rear of the sanctuary to exit the church. That way we won't 'bunch up' in the narthex.
There will be no coffee and cookies, fellowship should happen on your own by telephone or spacing apart in the parking lot.
Sunday School will resume in the fall with classes for all ages.
The nursery will not be open for anyone, care for children should continue to be provided by their immediate family.
This Sunday, May 10th, Pastor Nevada DeLapp will continue his series of sermons on the Psalms. His started with Psalms of lament, confession, ascent and this week a Psalm of Wisdom as in Psalm 1. The service will begin with several selections played by Miriam Hector on the grand piano. They will be "Fairest Lord Jesus", "The Power of Your Love", and "We Bow Down and Lay our Crowns at the Feet of Jesus". Other songs of praise will be lead by the All For Him praise band and singers. They will sing "Cornerstone", "Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me), "Ancient Words", and "When Peace Like a River". A big shout out has to go to our recorders of services. Dave Davelaar with filming the service and uploading to online, Jeremy Kamp for his work as PowerPoint and CD duplicator and Bruce Smit with his setting up the sound system each week. We are so thankful for all their dedication and expertise in these areas.
Our high school and college graduates will be honored on June 14. Ascension and Pentecost will be celebrated on May 24th and 31st respectively.
If anyone is in need of help, please call the church office at 546-4767 or Pastor at 616-443-4164.
All tithes and offerings may be dropped off at the church between 10 and noon Monday through Friday, mailed in, or brought with you on Sunday. Thank you for giving to the Lord.
