This Week at Calvin

Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 326 7th St SE, Le Mars, IA invites all to "develop a heart for our neighbors which leads us to serve and reach out to them for Christ." Please call our church office at 546-4767 if you have need for rides to appointments, to get groceries and supplies, or just need a chance to talk to someone over the phone. We are here for your and we want to "minister to each other and our neighbors through caring relationships."
Calvin has cancelled all activities at the church. However, our secretary will be in her office from 10 - 12 AM each day. The church will be open from 10 - 2 PM each day if you would like to pray or bring in your tithes and offerings. You are also welcomed to mail them into the office at the address above.
The Good Friday service was recorded earlier and will be on the church website (calvincrclemars.org) and online streaming at 6:30 PM Friday night. It will be the Story of Holy Week through scripture and song. It will be similar to the Lessons and Carols that is used at Christmas time. This model gives a panoramic view of God's glorious story of the last week of Jesus' life from his entrance to Jerusalem through the sealing of the tomb. Sometimes it is good to hear this part of God's story as a whole. There is no sermon. The Scripture is the Word; responses are woven throughout. the Scripture readings are taken entirely from the Gospel of Matthew. Songs relating to each portion of scripture will be sung accordingly. At various points items representing the action of the story are placed on a large table in front. At this service the Christ Candle will also be extinguished.
The Easter Service will be online at 10:15 AM Sunday morning. At this time the relit Christ Candle will be carried and placed on the communion table. The praise team of Steve Ver Mulm and Lyn Bulthuis will lead the singing of traditional Easter hymns such as: "Christ the Lord is Risen Today", "See, What a Morning", "He Is Lord", "You Are My King (Amazing Love), "Low in the Grave He Lay" and "Oh, How Good is Christ the Lord". Miriam Hector will accompany the singing with the organ and piano.
Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp has chosen John 1: 1 - 18 and Genesis 1: 1 - 3 for his text. The John passage will be read as a Readers Theater of four readers. The readers include Pastor, Lyn, Steve and Gayle Walhof. Pastor's message is entitled "The Word."
Pastor DeLapp is uploading little video meditations to his Facebook page entitled "Bit size bits with the bearded pastor."
Join Calvin in finding peace, hope and joy in these different times. As Pastor said in his last sermon, "We learn patience working through our problems step by step. All things must work together for my salvation, but God has come near to you through Jesus. He teaches us how to live in the mess. We must learn obedience. Jesus was obedient to die on the cross for our sins. We must take up our cross and die to ourselves - living and serving others."
The tomb is empty this Easter. He has risen indeed!
