This Week at Calvin
Calvin Christian Reformed Church recognizes Epiphany and celebrates Communion this Sunday, January 12, 2020. Epiphany is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God as Jesus Christ. At Communion Calvin invites all who are truly sorry for their sins, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as their Savior,, and who desire to live in obedience to Him are invited to come with gladness to the table of our Lord in celebration of communion. As is our tradition with communion, all are encouraged to contribute to the Christian Needs Center this Sunday. The January needs are: pancake mix, syrup, pudding/jello; jelly; soup pasta sauce (no noodles); granola bars; potatoes; rice; juice; hamburger helper; toilet paper; toothpaste; and deodorant.
Worship at 10:15 AM begins with a prelude on the grand piano entitled "Beautiful Savior" arranged by Rudy Atwood. Epiphany songs to be sung will be "As With Gladness Men of Old", "Arise, Your Light is Come", and "Come, Light, Light of God." Angeli Shieh will play an arrangement of "Holy Spirit" by Jesus Culture for the offertory.
Scripture readings come from the Gospel of John 1: 29 - 42 read by the Pastor from the center of the congregation symbolizing that Jesus came down to earth to be among us. The Gospel Hymn will be "Behold the Lamb" by Keith and Kristen Getty. Pastor's text for his sermon will be Revelation 15: - 16: 21.
Communion will be distributed to the congregation after the morning message. Miriam Hector will play "Lamb of God with Jesus Paid It All" and "You Are My All in All" with Pachelbel Canon.
Sunday School classes for ages 4 through Adults resume this Sunday at 9:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall with coffee to be served. The Adults will be led by Pastor DeLapp showing a few Bible Project videos, youth will continue studying the 7 Deadly Sins and the children are taught by Sharon Zomermaand.
Greeters this week will be Anna Mae Koerselman ad Steve Ver Mulm, Coffee servers - John & Mary Van Hill, Usher - John Klocksiem, nursery - Glenda Habben, sound system - Steve Ver Mulm, and power point - Jeremy Kamp.
Next week Pastor DeLapp will be at a worship conference. Josiah Mullins will lead worship with scripture and song. An elder will lead the congregational prayer and announcements. Josiah has been in Le Mars for some time now and he has a vey special ministry in song. Calvin is thankful for his willingness to lead us next week.
Mark your calendars for the 15th Annual Praise Band Fest to be held at Calvin on February 16th, Sunday night at 5:00 PM.
