This Week at Calvin
This Sunday, April 21st is Easter. In the Christian faith Easter is the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ from the dead. Calvin Christian Reformed Church, located at the junction of 4th Avenue SE and 7th St SE will be decorated with Easter lilies around the cross and the relighting of the Christ Candle.
The cross hanging in the front of the sanctuary will be draped with a long, white cloth representing the perfect Lamb who died on Good Friday and rolled the stone away to rise again on Easter morning. Alleluia!
This new life will also be celebrated again with more baptisms this Sunday morning. We praise God for this wonderful sacrament symbolizing purification and regeneration and admission to the Christian Church.
Pastor Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp will use Luke 24: 1 - 12 as his text for his Easter message. Easter hymns to be sung this morning are: "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today", "He is Lord", "Man of Sorrows", "Christ is Risen! Shout Hosanna" and "Low in the Grave He Lay". Angeli Shieh, a foreign exchange student from Taiwan now living with Steve and Kathy Ver Mulm will provide a prelude and accompany the congregational singing. We thank her for sharing her talents on this special day. A special offering is designated for The Le Mars Backpack program.
Sunday's Greeters are Pete & Mary Attema, Coffee Servers are Ina Bjorge & June Vos, Usher is Fred Vollink, Nursery is Elaine Van Otterloo, Sound System will be run by Steve Ver Mulm and Jeremy Kamp will set up and run the Power Point.
At 9:00 AM Calvin and all our guests will gather for a breakfast on Easter Sunday. There will be egg bake, fruit, coffee and juice served in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcomed to begin this glorious day around tables decorated for spring remembering all Christ has done for us.
The ladies of Calvin are invited to attend an evening of fellowship on Wednesday evening, May 1. We will share a meal of sandwiches, salad and dessert at 6:30 PM. The Women's Ministry Committee will provide the sandwiches and drinks and attendees are asked to bring either a salad or dessert. Karin Swanson, daughter of Dr. Tom and Ina Bjorge will be our speaker following our meal. Friends are invited as well.
ATTENTION: Calvin has announced the VBS theme this summer will be "Athens: Paul's Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth". All this fun will begin on Sunday June 23 at 5:30 PM with a meal. We will have sessions that run Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The closing session will end at 8:15 PM each evening. Kaitlyn Visscher is directing again and encourages all children ages 4 - 5th grade to attend. Teenagers are invited to help the younger children as they go from place to place. Please mark your calendars and join us at Calvin as we share God's love with the community.
