This Week at Calvin
Calvin Christian Reformed Church welcomes Rev. Duane Tinklenberg, retired pastor from the CRC now living in Sioux Center to fill our pulpit this Sunday. October 18th is a special day when we celebrate Holy Communion together. Our communion policy says "All who have been baptized, are truly sorry for their sins, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as their Savior, and who desire to live in obedience to Him are invited to come with gladness to the table of our Lord this morning." Our public worship time begins at 10:00 AM. All will be led into a spirit of worship by Mandy Viet playing the prelude. Elder Ron DeKok will welcome all and make necessary announcements. The songs of worship will be "As The Deer" and "Better is One Day in Your Court". Glenda Dobish, Mary Attema's sister from Arizona, will sing a solo for special music.
Pastor Tinklenberg has chosen Hosea 3 for the text of his message titled "Can God Really Love Like This?" The song of response will be "Love Divine, All Love's Excelling".
He will then invite us around the table to celebrate communion. During the distribution of the elements, the congregation will join in singing "I Surrender All". Following the Benediction we will be sent out with the singing of "The Doxology."
Communion days also remind us of Calvin's tradition of collecting items for the Christian Needs Center. Their needs are: soup, green beans, fruit, pancake mix,, cereal, rice, mac & cheese, juice and toothpaste. They may be placed in the blue barrel in the narthex to be transported on Wednesday.
Offerings may be placed in the wicker basket at the rear of the sanctuary, sent to the church office at 326 7th St SE, or dropped off at the secretary's office during office hours Monday through Friday, 10 - noon.
This week is also a Special Offering for World Renew, the Christian Reformed Church's relief organization for needy people around the world.
Following the service, the Fellowship Committee is planning an Autumn Indoor Picnic for all in the Fellowship Hall. That'll be hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, nacho chips cheese, and ice cream bars.
During the Sunday School Hour the classes will join in a great time of distributing funds from offerings taken during the year. They will use the catalog of World Renew to find gifts that each age group would like to give their offerings to. Come at 9:00 AM Sunday morning to give your two cents worth.
All services are recorded and can be seen on live stream by giving your email address to the secretary, listened to on the website at calvincrclemars.org or by picking up a CD from under the mailboxes to listen to and worship with whenever is convenient for you. We hope you will be blessed with time of praise and worship, prayer and Bible teaching.
Bible Study during the next week is Wednesday at 1:30 PM led by Lyn Bulthuis. The topic is "Angels" and is the second lesson in our study. Please join us for study, prayer and fellowship.
Looking ahead mark your calendars for the Youth Center's Bowl-a-thon, October 25 at Sweet 16 Lanes on Sunday afternoon. All ages are encouraged to bowl with Calvin's Team. If you have questions, please talk to Pete Attema. This service develops a heart for our neighbors which leads us to serve and reach out to them for Christ.
